Globalisation of Dating - The Survey

Globalisation of Dating - The Survey

Following on from my previous post on online dating I have decided to take on the challenge of getting to know what the public’s perception of online dating is. I am going to ask questions related to globalisation, danger & anonymity and this will be to explore whether age has any effect on the perception of online dating. Instead of going around asking people on the street I am going to create a survey online and open it up (hopefully) to the wider world. What would be the point of asking people about globalisation unless you’re willing to use it as a tool to get the information requested? I am going to upload the survey on to my personal Facebook account (this will be directed towards friends & family), then Twitter & LinkedIn & this is open to anyone to take – it opens the survey to more than just those that I know and that I’m familiar with. Another option is to leaflet around Goldsmiths campus, however I believe that a wider audience will be reached online.

To make things easier I am going to split people in to three age groups – 18-25, 26-40 & 40+

This will make the data easier to interpret and to see if age has any difference on what people believe and perceive.

The Survey

Survey

With the survey completed and posted it is now just a waiting game until all the results are in and I can start to go through them and hopefully find some useful information that links perception with age. I am expecting the older generation to not use online dating but to see it as dangerous and possibly have an answer on what they think online dating is doing for globalisation. With the two younger age groups, I am expecting some of them to perceive it as dangerous however I am expecting all of them to use or have used online dating.

Below are some of the questions asked and pictures of the survey posted on to social media.

The results and findings will be published in the essay and interesting responses will be noted.
