Marx on Tinder-

Just had a seminar for Modern Political Theory and Saul was talking about Marx and what his take would be on online dating, thought it could be interesting/relevant to our project:

Worker alienated from fellow man- forced to engage in Hobbesian force of competition, must treat others as competitor, threat, or as something to be used. Tinder- ‘dating market’ completely superficial, person swipes yes/no. Person is turning self into commodity? Marx’s point of view- effect on money on romantic relationship, would regard online dating as deeply problematic, emerging capitalism into everyday life.

  1. I think this idea of self-commodification is really interesting. I found this article on Jacobin (https://www.jacobinmag.com/2016/02/internet-dating-commodification-love-valentine/) which talks about how internet dating has become an extension of commodification and compares Internet dating to a financial market. It's a little wordy but a pretty good read.

    2. This is pretty interesting and it'd be good to tease it out a bit more.
